If you are here, my friend, you are a curious one.
So let me explain to you the most crazy and amazing tradition my family has.
The
Reading
Contest
Every year me and my brothers are forced to read the same book
And then, do a written exam about it
Looser pays a bottle of wine
RULES:
Cheers!
1. Reading
The book is announced to us with excitement, at least
6 months before the exam.
And the tension starts.
2. The Exam
It's a written exam, on paper.
Every year the difficulty improves,
After taking the exam our father reads all the answers out loud.
So be careful about what you write, because if the answer is stupid we will definitely laugh about it.
Cheers!
Cheers!
3. Results
If you get the lowest grade
you pay for a bottle of wine
(Of course, we all drink it together
and roast the looser)
4. Penalti
If you weren't able to finish the book (we are honest, we tell the truth)
You ALSO have to pay for a bottle of wine!
Cheers!
Cheers!
Basically it is a tradition about reading
and drinking wine
Want to know the story?
It all started with my parents telling me and my brothers that we were doing a trip to Corfu
to fulfill one of my mother's dreams:
visit the place that Gerald Durrell so colorfully describes in her favorite novel My family and other animals.
My Bros
(Yes, the weird sac of potatoes in the middle is me)
And as we were going to the place of that wonderful book we were
politely obligated
to read the book before the trip.
As any normal human beings my parents wanted to make sure that we read the book.
How?
BY LITERALLY MAKING US DO A WRITTEN EXAM
And to add pressure, they told us..
"IF YOU FAIL
YOU DON'T GO TO THE TRIP!"
My parents loooooooveeedd the challenge
(and I'm not going to lie, we also did)
but they decided that the risk of paying for a plane ticket and loosing the money because of a test just wasn't realistic. And they decided to change the rules of the game.
And now all that is at stake is your pride and wine.
